Bradfield Music Festival
Sheffield Music Hub's finest young musicians to perform at Bradfield Music Festival
The Bradfield Festival of Music is an annual, week‑long celebration of live music held in late June in the village of High Bradfield, near Sheffield. It takes place in the historic St Nicholas’ Church, a 12th‑century venue set in the Peak District countryside.
It is a prestigious festival featuring high‑quality performances, attracting internationally acclaimed artists alongside emerging talent, with programmes spanning mainly classical music as well as influences from jazz, film, and other genres. It offers audiences a unique experience of world‑class music in an intimate and picturesque setting.
We are delighted that two of Sheffield Music Hub’s outstanding Year 13 musicians, Ben Ollerenshaw and Charles Bright, will be performing at the festival on Saturday 20 June.
Ben and Charles have both been dedicated members of Sheffield Music Hub for many years. They are talented musicians who are deeply embedded in our community, regularly involved in ensembles, performances, and supporting younger players. We are incredibly proud to provide them with this opportunity to perform at Bradfield as they prepare to move on to further study.
Charles Bright is currently a member of:
He also volunteers with Sheffield Children’s Wind Band, supporting beginner clarinet players.
Charles shares:
"I’m Charles Bright. I am currently in year 13 studying Physics, Maths and Music. Next year I am going to study physics at university. I started playing Clarinet when I was 7 and Alto Saxophone when I was 16. I have also taught myself to play classical guitar and enjoy playing to my family. I have been part of the Sheffield Music hub for 9 years, joining Children’s Windband shortly after I started playing the Clarinet. I am currently part of 3 Music Hub groups: Senior Clarinets, Festival Band and Senior Orchestra. I also help out younger students at Children’s Windband. While being a part of the Music Hub I have had the opportunity to perform in some incredible venues. These include: The Leadmill, Tramlines Festival and the Royal Albert Hall. This summer I am going on tour to Normandy with Festival Band. The piece I will be playing today is “Contradanza” by Cuban composer and performer Paquito D’Rivera. A Contradanza is a type of dance where two long lines of people dance vigorously facing each other."
Ben Ollerenshaw is currently a member of:
Ben started playing the clarinet when he was 9 years old and the alto saxophone at 11. He had lessons at school through the Sheffield Music Hub, and has been a member of several of the hub ensembles from a young age. Ben attends Tapton School where he enjoys being an active member of the Music department, including playing in a jazz quintet that he formed with his friends. After his A-levels Ben is going to Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to study a BMus in Jazz.
