Sheffield Childrens Orchestra (Beginner Strings)

Children’s Orchestra is a beginner string group for children (usually Y3 – Y6) who have just started learning to play their instrument. We welcome you from when you can bow on open strings until you are ready to move on to Youth Strings (roughly Grade 2). We choose our music with our members in mind so we will have a part that it is just the right level for you!
We welcome young musicians who can play:
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass
As well as playing our instruments, we spend time playing games and getting to know each other - being a team helps us play together better. We focus on playing in time as a team whilst learning to follow a conductor and expanding our dynamic range. We also practise performance skills and we have performed in lots of exciting venues including Sheffield Cathedral and the Octagon Centre. We will teach you all the foundation ensemble skills you need to progress right through to Senior Orchestra! We welcome new members at any point in the term so please come along and give us a try or get in contact if you have any questions!

What to expect at your first rehearsal
If you think it might help, please share the Young Person’s Rehearsal Timeline with your young musician. This will give them an idea of what to expect when they arrive, the rehearsal and what to do at the end. Hopefully it will help calm some nerves :)
