Heather Burge (Strings)

Having shown an interest in music from an early age, Heather started piano lessons at the age of 6. At school she fell in love with the violin and after a year of pestering (and growing), she was finally allowed to start lessons. Whilst growing up in Sheffield, she developed a passion for ensemble playing, playing at numerous venues within the UK and Europe with the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra.

Heather continued her musical studies at Leeds College of Music exploring a variety of genres including Classical, Jazz and Pop. Whilst completing her degree, modules in Community Music inspired Heather to go on to study teaching. In 2010 she completed a PGCE in Music and Specialist Instrumental Teaching.

Since joining Sheffield Music Hub, she has enjoyed teaching violin and viola in a variety of settings as well as ensemble coaching with Sheffield Young Sinfonia, Senior Orchestra and Music Hub @ The Clock Tower. Since participating in leadership development training, she has relished in the opportunity to co-ordinate regional Music for Youth Festivals and the successful Music Hub holiday courses whilst being a member of the Music Hub Safeguarding Team. Heather also continues to perform as a freelance musician throughout Yorkshire and the UK.
