Junior Choir

Hello I'm Laura and I am the director of Junior Voices, I work closely with Charlotte, Amy, Cathy and Caroline to form the Sheffield Music Hub Choirs and we absolutely love being part of it!

Junior Voices is warm, welcoming and loads of fun. We work hard to create an environment that feels comfortable and accessible for absolutely everyone and as a result, we have a really diverse bunch!

The choir formed 4 years ago and began as a performance opportunity for children. We rehearsed 3/4 times per term and performed at the end of the term. As we have grown, we now have weekly rehearsals, produce amazing recordings and when we can, we will be performing live too!

Fiona has been a member of our choir pretty much since day 1, and here's what she has to say about it now she has moved up to Youth Voices.

  • "I have been a member of the choir for 3/4 years now. The best thing about being part of the choir is that you get to meet a lot of other young people who often have similar interests as you, and are kind, nice and supportive to be around"

Of course we work really hard on musical and singing skills such as beautiful standing and expression, dynamics and tempo, pulse and rhythm, however Junior Voices is about more than just that. It is about making singing part of growing up.  We truly believe that singing improves mental health and well-being, creates friendships that otherwise wouldn't be there, and opportunities to perform and feel really good about themselves.

Here is what Jay thinks of the choir.

  • "I like being part of Junior Voices becuase the teachers make learning new singing skills so much fun, and I love singing in a gorup with children from all different parts of Sheffield"

We welcome absolutely everyone at Junior Voices so get in touch if you would like to have a trial or sign up - we would love to see you!
