Our aim is to open the door to collaborative and creative music making and to encourage our students to take ownership of the music they create and play. A huge part of what defines Jazz is improvisation- making up music on the spot. We will take players from their very first steps into the world of improvising and build their skills and confidence along the way.
Sheffield Junior Jazz Collective is open to students’ year 3 and above, players don’t need to have completed any grades but should have been playing for around one year and be enthusiastic about playing with others and improvising.
Pathways for progression from the Junior Jazz Collective lead on to our Sheffield Youth Jazz Collective (Intermediate), Sheffield Youth Jazz Collective (Advanced) and the Sheffield Youth Big Band.
We cover a range of styles that fall under the umbrella of Jazz.
Any Instrument welcome!
Fees: Membership for our groups is TOTALLY FREE if you are in receipt of free school meals or fit our bursary criteria. We don’t want cost to be an issue, the friends of Sheffield Music Hub support with bursaries, please email musichubprojects@sheffield.gov.uk if you need help with the cost of fees, whatever your circumstances.
Please note we only accept new members into this group in the first half of every term (e.g. September to October, January to February, April to May).
