Sue Tinson (Secretary and Trustee)
Hi there! I’m Sue, the F&V Secretary. I joined the volunteer team in March 2022 after retiring from a career as a Senior Learning & Development Officer for the world’s largest corporate law firm—a role that sparked my lifelong love for global travel.
My journey with Sheffield Music Hub (SMH) began a few years ago at one of their concerts. Watching the children perform and hearing the music instantly transported me back 30+ years to watching our youngest son play the cello. Thanks to Sheffield Music Service (as SMH was known then), he progressed through various instrument sizes until his father remarkably handcrafted him a full-sized cello at a woodworking night class! Seeing the joy music brought to his life inspired me to volunteer. It’s vital to ensure that all children have access to the same incredible musical opportunities.
Some things about me…
- History Enthusiast: I am obsessed with Tudor and Elizabethan history and volunteer as a room guide at Hardwick Hall for the National Trust.
- Glass Artist: I took up making fused glass during lockdown, bought my own kiln, and love having this creative outlet.
- Peak District Hiker: My happy place is hiking the moors and mountains of the Peak District, and I feel incredibly lucky to live right on its doorstep.
- Surprising Fact: I used to be a keen amateur actress with the City Players and performed at the Library Theatre, Sheffield. In 1985, I starred in a student film called Hand in Hand which won the Fuji Short Film of the Year award, earning me a permanent spot on IMDb!
- Family & Music: Music binds our family together. There is nothing quite like the priceless joy of watching a child discover rhythm for the first time by tapping a plate with a spoon. Our oldest son is a Music Producer in his spare time and our oldest grandson is currently learning the Ukulele!
