Roz Massey (Strings)

Hi!  I’m Roz and I’m a violinist.  I was first inspired to learn the violin when playing with an alphabet jigsaw puzzle and liking the look of ‘v’ for violin.  I was born in Sheffield and worked my way through the orchestras, finally ending up proudly leading the 2nd violins in CSYO.  My favourite type of music is huge orchestral symphonies (Mahler and Shostakovich are my favourite composers).

I went to University to study music in Leeds and then completed my PGCE in Roehampton.  I spent 13 years as a Head of Music in a secondary school in London before returning back to Sheffield.  I love working with young people on all stages of their journey and there is nothing that gives me more pleasure at work than smiling faces (and cake)!

  • Favourite song: Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen
  • Hobby other than music: Running
  • Favourite food: Pizza
  • Favourite place in Sheffield: Stanage Edge
  • One thing you might not know about me: I used to be a tap dancer!
