Katrina Fountain (Woodwind)

I’m Katrina and I teach woodwind for Sheffield Music Hub.  I studied at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Paris Conservatoire! I’ve been playing flute and sax forever and I guess my passion is world music and jazz. This is reflected in three albums of my own music that I recorded with South African and Indian musicians. My enthusiasm for teaching music started when I went to teach at the Zimbabwe College of Music. Subsequently I ended up in South Africa recording, playing gigs and teaching in Johannesburg.

I came back to London to teach whole class instruments in Tower Hamlets before I took a job working at the International School of Moscow as lead music teacher at the Primary campus.

I finally moved to Sheffield two years ago and I haven’t regretted it.  I love teaching for the music hub and I won’t be going anywhere else.

Some things about me...

  • Favourite song/artist- I have so many. Louis Mhlanga a guitarist from South Africa – has to be high on my list.
  • Hobby outside of work- walking the moors and peaks.
  • Favourite food – tricky one – love anything spicy.
  • Favourite place in Sheffield – Bradfield – low and high.
  • Surprising fact – I also play the Viola!
