Help Shape the Future of Music Education as a Young Co-Lead
Voice For Youth is back and we're looking for two new Co-Leads
Voice For Youth is a youth-led event for young people aged 14 to 18, giving them a platform to share their views and tell us what they want from music education in Sheffield. The aim is to create a space where young people's voices help shape the decisions we make and influence future opportunities across the city.
Following two successful and informative events during the 2024/25 academic year, we're excited to bring Voice For Youth back for 2026/27.
As part of the programme, we're looking for two young Co-Leads aged 14 to 19 to help shape and steer the next phase of Voice For Youth.
As a co-lead, you'll work alongside Heather Burge and Rory Evans to help plan discussion topics, contribute ideas and support the delivery of future events. You'll also have the opportunity to get involved in areas such as marketing, event planning and logistics.
This is a voluntary role and may be ideal for someone interested in a future career in the music sector.
The commitment
Co-Leads will take part in monthly steering meetings, planned around your timetable and held either online or in person. There will also be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities if you'd like to become more involved.
Deadline to Apply: Wednesday 23rd September 5pm
Find out what has been put in place as a result of Voice For Youth
We're proud to say that we've already acted on a huge amount of feedback from young people. The initiatives below were all developed directly in response to suggestions and ideas shared at previous Voice For Youth events:
- Mentoring Scheme – Connecting young musicians with experienced mentors who can support them throughout their musical journey, including exploring pathways into the music industry.
- Work Experience Programme – This programme offers young people hands-on experience in music education here at Sheffield Music Hub.
- Student Roles at Learn to Play – Older students supported younger children at instrument stalls, helping them explore and try out new instruments.
- Young Producers at the Spring Gala Concert – Young people taking on behind-the-scenes roles such as Stage Management Assistants, Audio Visual Assistants, and Social Media/Comms Assistants. The Young Producers Programme is continuing into the 2026 - 2027 academic year.
