Harmony Works Sheffield, £14 million raised!

Harmony Works is an incredibly ambitious, incredibly exciting and incredibly real project, that will transform Canada House—a majestic Grade II listed building in Castlegate, Sheffield, originally built in 1875 for the Sheffield United Gas Light Company—into a purpose-built home for music education. Sheffield Music Hub is proud to be a founding partner, working alongside the Harmony Works Trust to bring this vision to life. In May 2024, Harmony Works Trust officially completed the purchase of the 35,000 sq ft building from Panache for £1.6 million, marking a pivotal milestone toward its transformation into a central hub for music education across the city and region.

Harmony Works has already raised £14 million and is now working to secure the final £1 million! Thank you to all who have donated to the project and made this vision possible, including:

We are proud to be working alongside Harmony Works to make this happen. For example, at the live fundraising event in July, we collaborated to create Sheffield’s Orchestral Collective, featuring students, alumni, and staff from Sheffield Music Hub, Sheffield Music Academy and Concerteenies. The collective was in full force alongside Concordia Voices, Sheffield Community Choir led by Janine Dyer and some pretty special guests, UK Steve Edwards, Jon Boden and Precious Pepala!

Our music groups have also performed at the Castlegate Festival, and Leah’s Yard in collaboration with Harmony Works.

Once fully restored, Canada House will become home to a range of fantastic organisations, including Sheffield Music Hub, Sheffield Music Academy, Brass Bands England, Music in the Round, The Choir with No Name, Orchestras for All, and Concerteenies. The hub will also collaborate with The University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, and other partners to deliver life-changing musical experiences for young people of Sheffield and beyond!
