John Lyon (Strings)
John studied for his undergraduate and master's degrees in musicology at The University of Leeds, staying on in the city the year after his studies to carve out a reputation as a conductor, musical director, violinist, composer/arranger and choral singer. John has worked with the majority of the ensembles in the West Yorkshire area, putting on award-winning operas and playing violin in the chamber orchestra he set up. He still resides as the musical director for Leeds Youth Opera and the guest conductor for Leeds Symphony Orchestra.
Now he's in Sheffield, John is thrilled to have the opportunity to project the same devotion and enthusiasm for musical goings-on into children right across the city from beginner to advanced. John fundamentally believes in the profound power of music education. He loves working with children because he's a big child himself, but with a steely determination and the ambition for his students to achieve more highly than they thought possible.
