Celia Hurwitz-Keefe (Strings)

Celia Hurwitz-Keefe (Strings)

I am from the USA, where I studied for BA, MMus and PhD degrees in music. When I was 20 years old, I travelled to the UK as a study abroad student to take cello lessons at the Royal Academy of Music in London. I moved to the UK permanently in 1997.

A lot of my training prepared me to be an academic musician, but after lecturing for a few years, I decided to return to cello playing and teaching because I missed making music with other people. Playing live music was something I wanted more of in my life! With this in mind, I always try to make cello lessons fun as well as challenging. Learning music should be full of small pleasures and achievements, as well as dedicated practise and commitment.

When I am not playing the cello, I love to read, go to the theatre and walk in the countryside with my family.
