Pat Phillips studied at Trinity College of Music in London where she gained a degree in music, a diploma in trumpet teaching and a diploma for choral conducting. A year at Trent Park, London, followed to study for a PGCE. After that she moved back to Sheffield and has been a teacher of brass there and in Derbyshire for over 30 years.
She has been a player in and conductor of local bands, but much of her musical enjoyment comes from training youth bands. She started Tapton Youth Band in 1993 which has enjoyed much competition success and has also toured extensively around Europe.
She teaches all the brass instruments except the French Horn (which she likes to leave to the experts!)
