Instrument: Cello - also Theory and Composition
Benjamin began playing the cello aged 8 and eventually went on to achieve a First Class Honours degree in music from the University of Leeds. During his studies, his interest in music education began to grow. On top of his dissertation project looking into the benefits of extra-curricular musical activities on young people’s development, he also had hands-on experience in the classroom and since as a private tutor and manager of the university’s chamber orchestra. His extensive orchestral and ensemble experience has taken him to France, Italy, Germany and the Edinburgh Fringe.
In 2018, Benjamin composed and performed a ‘Suite For Solo Cello’ as part of an academic project which looked into the inner-workings of music written especially for the instrument. He continues to be a keen and active performer and composer, with his debut album ‘A Dream From Before’ released in 2019. He also regularly writes a blog which explores classical music from a number of perspectives.
