Sheffield City Region - Music Industry Survey

People working in the music industry in South Yorkshire are being asked to share their experiences of finding help and advice during the pandemic to help shape better support for the industry in the future. 

The Sheffield City Region Music Board is asking musicians, promoters, venue owners, freelancers and others who work in the industry to share where they found useful information during the pandemic, as well as how informed they feel about issues including Brexit, to help identify what needs to be done to support South Yorkshire’s music industry.

Developed in partnership with the University of Sheffield the survey responses will help the Music Board advocate for South Yorkshire’s music industry and represent the region on the national stage.

Established in 2018 by Mayor Jarvis, the SCR Music Board represents artists, music venues, music hubs, representatives from festivals, local authorities and more in South Yorkshire. Working with UK Music, the Board champions music makers, music lovers and the music industry to support talent and grow the region’s cultural economy. 

Penny Blackham, Chair of the SCR Music Board, said: “This survey will help us find out more about how people in the music industry sought out useful information about funding during the pandemic, to help us make sure people are able to access useful information and better financial support in the future. We’ll also be asking people about Brexit and its impact on the industry, so we can help signpost South Yorkshire’s music industry towards information to help tackle any challenges they may be facing. 

“The Board is committed to supporting our music industry and all who work in it. From teachers to technical crew to the musicians themselves and everyone in the far reaching ecosystem that is the Music Industry. This survey will help us support the industry in the best way we can as we come out of the pandemic and face new unknowns in the shape of Brexit. We hope as many people as possible take part in the survey so we have strong and unequivocal evidence to advocate for the region’s industry”

Kate Brindley, Director for Arts, Culture and Heritage at the Sheffield City Region said: “The music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic with many venues having to remain closed for more than a year, which has had a huge impact on lives and livelihoods across South Yorkshire. 

“The Music Board is committed to supporting the industry’s recovery from the pandemic and by completing the survey respondents will help the Board successfully advocate for South Yorkshire’s music industry on the national stage.”

The survey takes around 20 minutes to complete and can be filled in online. Responses are being welcomed until 31 May.
