Save the Date!! Jazz Camp for Girls

Published on 27/11/2018

Sheffield Music Hub is delighted to be one of six Hubs in the North England pioneering a vision for girls in jazz. This project is a one day jazz camp for girls inspired by the Jazz Danmark/ Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

The ethos of Jazz Camp for Girls is to have a deep learning experience without the pressure of performing. Tutors will encourage participants to improvise, link up with *Issie Barratt’s female jazz playlist on Spotify and be inspired by music written by women.

Our vision is that in 5 years’ time, there will be a week-long Jazz Camp for Girls across the North of England. Do you want to be part of this?

In Sheffield, this will be a great day and we encourage you to save the date if you are a girl and are either:

  • aged 9-13 and would like to experience improvised music for the first time OR
  • you belong to Sheffield Youth Jazz Collective/ Sheffield Youth Big Band and would like to expand your awareness of women in jazz and be part of an exciting vision for our city.  The opportunity to be a mentor is possible if you are more experienced.

All instruments and vocalists are welcome.

Timings: All day – precise timings to be confirmed

Date: Sunday 10 February 2019

Location: Block C, Sheffield Music Hub, Stadia Technology Park,  60 Shirland Lane, Sheffield, S9 3SP.

*Issie Barratt was recently named one of the top 40 influential in Music in the UK.  We are utterly delighted to be working with such a high calibre of Jazz individual.
