Published on 21/12/2018

The Centre for New Music at the University of Sheffield is delighted to announce a new composition competition for secondary school students.

The first-prizewinner will receive a £100 Amazon voucher and a performance of their work. The compositions by two runners-up will be performed alongside the first-prizewinner's piece in a public concert in the Sheffield Winter Garden as part of Classical Sheffield on 9 or 10 March (details to be confirmed).

Shortlisted compositions will be played in a workshop on Thursday 21 February 4-6pm at the University of Sheffield, which students will be expected to attend if their piece is shortlisted.  All entrants are invited to attend the workshop, whether their composition has been shortlisted or not.  We will announce the first-prizewinner and runners up at the workshop.  The competition is open to GCSE students and above from UK secondary schools and sixth form colleges.

For full details on how to enter (including the composition briefs) please go to the competition webpage.

Deadline is Monday 11 February 2019.
