Becky Stroud - Primary School Music Advisor
My name is Becky and I am a primary school music teacher. I grew up in Scotland, learning to play clarinet, piano, accordion, penny whistle… and bagpipes! I've learnt from amazing mentors at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, University of Sheffield, Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds the Carnegie School of Education, and Leeds Beckett University. Learning never stops as an educator and the pupils I teach in class remind me of this every day!
I love teaching primary music, starting with small musical ideas that can be built up in an ensemble environment using tuned and untuned percussion, singing and body percussion. I’m inspired and influenced by both the Orff and Kodaly music education approaches. I enjoy working between organisations to bring them together to spark new creative ideas to develop musical projects for Sheffield pupils. I lead our Primary Music Network in Sheffield to create connections between primary music teachers and develop primary teacher musical knowledge and skills.
