FREE Music Study Day (For Y11 & Y12 Conference)
This 'Music Study Day' is aimed at Year 11 and Year 12 students who want to find out more about what it's like to study music at university
The University of Sheffield is pleased to announce the launch of their registrations for this year's free Music Study Day taking place on Monday 17 June here at the University of Sheffield. For full programme details (including timings, speakers, sessions) and to register online please go to the event webpage
The event is designed to give students a taste of what university-level study in music is like, challenging them to work creatively with unfamiliar topics and approaches in a discursive small-group teaching environment. Following a brief introduction, participants will select from a menu of workshops (both academic and practical) led by the Department's academic staff on the following topics:
- The Broadway musical: from the archive to the theatre
- Experiments to examine the musical brain
- Tradition v Technology: Folk music in the digital age
- Navigating the music industries
- Sound synthesis using free software
- Performance masterclass
- Composition workshop
They will also hear from our current undergraduate Music students about what it's like studying Music at degree level.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Please note: places are limited, so we would advise you to book early. We expect participants to engage with the full programme of events from the 9.30am start through to the 3.30pm close and ask that they make their travel arrangements around these times. Teachers are welcome to accompany their group (equally, we are happy for pupils to attend unaccompanied).
We hope this opportunity is of interest to your students.
