Yo Tozer - Loft (Voice)

Hello!

I am Yo (or Yoyo) and I love to sing!  I know that singing can change lives, build confidence, bring joy and healing, make us stronger and join people together as one. Singing is powerful!

Growing up in a big singing family, we were all part of a four-part church choir which I loved from the age of 7, and have sung with Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus, Duke Street Gospel Choir and now love singing with the wonderful Sonority Women's Chamber Choir. I have also been lead singer in jazz, folk, pop and Americana bands and enjoyed producing Kate Bush (YoyoSongShop YouTube), Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox and Joan Armatrading concerts.

In the past I was a Primary teacher and running the school choir gave me the bug! I have run community choirs for the last 14 years and run singing projects with foodbanks, dementia care homes, schools and churches with singers aged 3-93.

I now lead Ecclesall Junior Choir alongside the Sheffield Music Hub's Junior Voices Choir and we have lots to look forward to!

I love to meet people and find out about them. I teach singing to individuals and whole classes. In my lessons, as well as singing technique, I try to show each pupil what they have to offer that is unique and beautiful and to build each singer up to be the best they can be and often surprise themselves!

  • My favourite piece of music right now is 'Nectarine' by Romy Taylor
  • My favourite thing to do outside of work is the garden: I love plants and flowers. My garden is my relaxation space, but I also love the recording studio.
  • My favourite food is my husband's prawn risotto!
  • My favourite (near Sheffield) place is Barbrook Reservoir where I've seen stags rutting on my way to a wild swim, wow... I also adore The Crucible & both Sheffield Cathedrals.
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know: my Foodbank Choir inspired a play at London's National Theatre! Faith, Hope & Charity.
