Kristyna Farag (Flute and Voice)

Hello! I’m Kristýna, a flautist and singer, born in the Czech Republic to Slovak and Syrian parents. I hold a Master’s degree from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. My artistic voice speaks through both classical and Middle Eastern musical traditions. I specialise in 20th-century repertoire, improvisation, and collaborations with visual artists.

I’ve enjoyed teaching privately and at several schools, including the International School of Music and Fine Arts Prague. I’ve always cherished the friendships built through teaching, performing, and singing in choirs. The joy of making music, which started for me at the age of four, is something I love to share with my pupils.

I have wide experience in orchestral and chamber music and won 1st prize at the Friedrich Kuhlau International Competition in Uelzen as a member of a flute trio. I’ve performed at major festivals in the Czech Republic and across Europe.

I love traditional and folk music from around the world. I co-founded the Albaidar Duo with Marwan Alsolaiman, where we arrange and perform Arab classical and folk music. I also sing soprano with Leeds Guild of Singers and explore improvisation with the Prague-based quartet Fahrzavö.

I’m in my third year of living in Sheffield — a true tree paradise. I can often be found in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, at the serene Forge Dam, or hiking in the Peak District, whose landscapes remind me of my beloved Krkonoše – one of the Czech mountain ranges. I’m very fond of walking and usually get to my pupils on foot!
