Naomi Hill (Brass)

Hi, I am Naomi, and I work as a brass tutor with Sheffield Music Hub. I am a lower brass specialist playing Euphonium, Baritone and Trombone, and teach all brass instruments in both individual tuition and whole class settings. From making my first sounds on a baritone horn as a four-year-old, to studying music at masters level, music has always been a part of my life. I studied BMus Music (Hons) followed by MMus Music Performance at The University of Huddersfield and now work as a freelance musician, conductor, composer, and music educator. I teach over 250 children aged 4 – 18 each week in the various places I work across Yorkshire. The pure joy, creativity, expression and enjoyment involved in music making of all kinds is something I am so passionate about giving all children and young people the opportunity to explore and be a part of.

Some things about me...

  • Favourite piece of music – difficult to pick just one, but one particular favourite is ‘Lamia - Symphonic Poem’ (1918)  by Dorothy Howell
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work – go for a long walk, or sit at the piano and write a piece of music.
  • Favourite food – isn’t strictly one food, but has to be a Sunday Lunch (with mash and Yorkshire puddings of course!)
  • Favourite place in Sheffield – Longshaw Estate, or anywhere else green where you can find sheep and cows!
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know – a solo euphonium recording I did a few years ago is often featured on daytime TV as background music!
