Amy Spearman (Cello)

Hello! My name is Amy and I teach the cello here for Sheffield Music Hub. Growing up in Oxfordshire, I started learning the piano and cello when I was 7 years old and discovered my love for music. I had amazing music teachers who encouraged me to join the youth orchestra, where I had wonderful experiences including the opportunity to play at the Royal Albert Hall for Music for Youth.

I fell in love with Sheffield when I came here to study music. I had the opportunity to play in lots of different ensembles, such as the Sheffield University Symphony Orchestra, Indian Music Ensemble and New Music Ensemble, as well as develop my love for composing.

I love all things cello and find it wonderful to explore different musical genres on such a beautiful instrument.

Some things about me...

  • Favourite song/piece of music: So hard to choose! But at the moment I’m loving The B Tune from As We Speak by Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work: Looking after my many houseplants
  • Favourite food: Cheesecake
  • Favourite place in Sheffield: Endcliffe Park
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know: I can tap dance!
