Sheffield Music Hub Takes on the Sheffield 10K
On Sunday 27 September, Sheffield Music Hub staff, parents, friends and current students will be taking part in the Sheffield 10K to raise money for music education and progression opportunities for children and young people across Sheffield.
Several runners are supporting different areas of Sheffield Music Hub's work, and we're adding a bit of friendly competition to see who can raise the most money.
Support Our Runners
Rachel Greene – Music Leader and Young Sounds Lead
As a music educator, Rachel has seen first hand the positive impact that music can have on children's confidence, wellbeing and development. She is taking part in the Sheffield 10K to raise money for the Friends & Volunteers of Sheffield Music Hub, whose fundraising helps provide opportunities for children and young people to access and continue their musical education.
Rachel originally set herself a fundraising target of £250, enough to cover the cost of a year's place in our music groups for one child in 2026/27. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, she has already exceeded that goal, but any additional donations will help support even more young people to access musical opportunities.
Rachel said: "I'm raising money to make sure music education across Sheffield is for everyone. As a music educator, I've seen first hand how music can change lives. Unfortunately, rising costs are making this more and more difficult. To help ensure we can support as many families as possible this year, I'm dusting off my running shoes and running the Sheffield 10K. As someone used to the comfort of concert halls, running's not something I find easy, so I'm definitely expecting a challenge! I really appreciate any donations, no matter how big or small".

Keith Nockels – Parent
Keith is fundraising for the Connect Programme, which supports children and young people from low income families to continue learning a musical instrument.
The programme provides free weekly instrumental tuition, access to instrument hire, membership of weekly music groups and an Individual Learning Plan to support each young person's musical development. Participants are also invited to termly musical experiences known as Get Togethers, designed to introduce them to a wide range of musical styles and opportunities.
The programme has a strong continuation rate, helping young people stay engaged with music and continue progressing throughout their musical journey.
