Young Musicians Invited to Win £500 and Feature at Holocaust Memorial Day 2027

Sheffield Music Hub is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for young musicians and composers.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust has launched HMD Harmony, a new national music competition inviting musicians aged 18 to 25 to create an original composition inspired by the theme of Holocaust Memorial Day 2027: "No Place for Prejudice".

The winning composition will become part of the UK National Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony on 27 January 2027, offering a unique opportunity for a young composer to have their work featured at one of the country's most significant events of remembrance. The winner will also receive a £500 award to support the next stage of their musical journey.

The annual National Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony is a BAFTA-nominated event that brings together political, civic and faith leaders, Holocaust survivors and public figures from across the UK. It serves as the focal point for national Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations and encourages reflection on the lessons of the past while standing against prejudice and discrimination today.

The 2027 theme, "No Place for Prejudice", explores how prejudice enabled the Holocaust while recognising that hatred, discrimination and intolerance continue to affect communities in the present day. Entrants are encouraged to respond creatively through music, helping audiences reflect on our shared humanity and the importance of building a more inclusive future.

The competition closes on Monday 9 November 2026, with entries judged by an expert panel.
