Rock and Pop Band Skills: A great opportunity for young people to gain skills, experience and play in a band with others.

This article has been co‑written with one of our work experience students, Nick, and we are proud to share a young person’s perspective on our Rock and Pop Band Skills programme.

Why Join Rock and Pop Band Skills?

If you are a young person, or a parent of someone in Year 7-Year 13, this is a great opportunity to gain confidence, grow as a musician and most importantly, have fun!

Rock and Pop Band Skills runs every Monday evening during school term time.
You can choose from two session times:

  • 5:30pm – 6:30pm
  • 6:45pm – 7:45pm

The practice rooms at Red Tape Central are excellent and have all the gear needed for bands to practice. This means you do not need to own or bring any personal music gear if you are not able to.

What Our Students Say

The programme continues to go from strength to strength, with new bands forming and new friendships being made. Here are a few things students have shared:

  • “One of the best things I have gained is the ability to work well in a team with other musicians.”
  • “Rock and Pop Band Skills has really helped me increase my self-confidence.”
  • “I have met a lot of new friends since I’ve been going here!”

Who is Rock and Pop Band Skills For?

Rock and Pop Band Skills is for young people who play any of the following instruments:

  • Keys
  • Drums
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Vocals

and would like to play in a band with likeminded individuals. The sessions have a friendly and supportive atmosphere with bands given their own practice rooms to work on playing, and even writing, songs.

The programme falls under Price Band B, costing:

  • £85 per term, or
  • £240 per year (annual subscription)

While this may seem like a significant commitment, it works out at around £20 per month, and the value students gained from participating in the club is significant.
